Gnarwolves announce debut album and new video 15 Jul 2014
After three years, three EPs and hundreds upon hundreds of chaotic shows, today Gnarwolves can finally announce the release of their hotly-anticipated debut full-length. The self-titled effort is made up of all-new tracks, filled to brim with their signature, volatile mixture of urgently brash punk fury and hook-laden melody with Lewis Johns once again behind the mixing desk.
With today’s announcement comes the video for lead track ‘Smoking Kills’, which was premiered by Dan P. Carter on last night’s Radio 1 Rock Show. Complete with front-side flips and fireworks, the clip joins the boys in their hometown of Brighton, carving the city’s concrete on four wheels before lighting up the night sky, with beers in hand.
Thom Weeks says of the track “Smoking Kills, on a personal level is about my relationship with my father, but it's also about the way society demonizes the young” dispelling the myth that all Punk bands write about is pizza and old Hot Water Music records. “Lyrically, the songs are snapshots of my own neurosis, trying to capture those moments where you stop being rational and become a slave to your own thought process. The moments where you think you've completely fucked everything, before you speak to someone and they put life back into perspective.”
It’s set to be a busy summer for the band, alongside numerous UK and EU events, the band will be opening the main stage at this year’s Reading and Leeds festivals – making the jump from smallest stage to biggest in just 12 months. With a debut album and huge shows over the coming months, their fan-base, the CRU as they’ve become known, is set to continue its meteoric rise all the way into 2015.
