I know some people have been waiting a while for this one so I’m really pleased to finally announce that we’re going to releasing Bastions’ new EP, Island Living on September 27th.  Recorded and produced by Ben Phillips at Lightship 95, Island Living features three new tracks of angry, despondent hardcore that will appeal to any fans of The Chariot, Converge and November Coming Fire. The EP is co-released with Holy Roar Records and is available on a beautiful, white 7″ vinyl along with a t-shirt designed by the incredibly talented Craig Robson (each label has a different shirt).

Pre-orders are up on online store now and include an instant, high quality download of all three tracks. If their last EP, Kingdom of Dogs was anything to go by (three pressings and counting), these could sell pretty quickly so get on this soon if you don’t want to be disappointed.

This post should have been written quite a while ago but since a lot of my time recently has been spent worrying about the prospect of becoming homeless, it meant that everything else took a slight backseat. Now that’s all sorted though we can get back to more exciting things, like another new addition to Tangled Talk Records, this time in the form of Eastbourne based three piece, Let’s Talk Daggers.

The first time I saw these guys live was late last year at the Two Tick Xmas Party, alongside Shoes & Socks Off and Blakfish (RIP) and I was blown away. They play an unnerving blend of genres and sounds that, if attempted by most bands would probably come across as disjointed and cacophonous. To describe them as frantic would be an understatement. The band’s second EP, Blankets, will be out in October 2010 on CD, download and via an extremely limited edition tape that will feature both of their releases. Blak Nite is an up and coming producer from Leicester who’s been making waves recently with his SebastiAn/Proxy inspired take on electro. It’s dark, and it’s fucking heavy. Which is exactly what we like. His debut EP, Hyde will be released via Tangled Talk Records in October in association with The Film Collective. More details will be coming soon, until then, check out the title track below and visit Blak Nite’s soundcloud page to hear a couple of earlier tracks and mixes. Cemaes Bayfest is returning to Anglesey, North Wales this weekend for the fourth year running. Held over two days in Llanbadrig Vineyard, the event features a pretty diverse line up showcasing drum and bass, dance and electro acts on Friday; with rock, punk and metal bands making up the Saturday bill. Bastions are playing (on the Saturday line-up surprisingly) alongside bands like Deaf Havana, Through Colour, Seagull Kineval, Make Like Madeline and a bunch of others. Tickets are £15 for the weekend or £8 for a day pass and are available from the website.

Yup, that’s Bastions’ new t-shirt design, appropriately titled, “Lovers”. There’s only going to be 20 of these printed so make sure you pre-order via their online store or you might miss out. It was designed by guitarist Jamie McDonald, who does loads of graphic design awesomeness under the Bear-Face moniker. Here’s the inspiration:

One of Brighton’s most loved music venues, The Freebutt, is facing possible closure by Brighton & Hove City Council because of noise complaints from one local resident. The Freebutt is one of the longest running independent music venues in Brighton and this would be sad news for Brighton residents and music fans in general. An online campaign (which has received 1676 signatures at the time of writing) has been organised by to try and allow the venue time to sort out the sound issues so that it can remain open. Please spread the word and show your support by signing the petition.
